Senior Civil Engineer or Assistant Town Engineer

The Wakefield Department of Public Works currently has an opening for a Senior Civil Engineer or Assistant Town Engineer. The Town of Wakefield is an exciting community, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of exciting projects. This position reports to the Town Engineer and is a key member of the Engineering Division. The position undertakes professional, supervisory and administrative responsibilities relating to the following:
- Preparation of designs, specifications and cost estimates for public works projects, including: survey, CAD design and project management.
- Review and inspection of proposed or ongoing projects designed and/or constructed by private firms.
- Preparation of consultant services contracts.
- Administers related contracts and inspects related construction projects.
- Supports various town departments, department heads, town boards and commissions.
- Provides engineering and other related information to the public.
- Performs drafting, surveying, site plan review and other related engineering activities.
Minimum Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and two (2) to four (4) years of experience working as a civil engineer in a municipal environment.
- Fundamentals in engineering certificate preferred for Senior Civil Engineering.
- Assistant Town Engineer position requires registration as a Professional Engineer in Massachusetts or become registered within six (6) months of employment.
- Working knowledge of engineering and construction standards as it relates to public works projects.
- Requires experience with Data Management and design drafting.
- Experience in using AutoCAD Land Development design software.
- Survey experience and ability to operate a Total Station with data collector and GPS.
- Computer proficiency with the use of standard word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Experience with GIS development and applications preferably working with ESRI software.
- A valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
- Required to work during snow & ice emergencies

Water Treatment Plant Operator – Water Division

The Wakefield Department of Public Works currently has an opening for a W-8 Water Treatment Plant Operator in the Water Division. In this position you will operate the town’s water treatment plant, to include but not limited to: diagnose, install, test, repair and maintain equipment and systems used to process and distribute water and facility infrastructure; maintain inventory of spare parts; maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, pumping related activities, and other related items; inspect and monitor water supply and related systems; perform other duties as assigned by the Water/Sewer Supervisor, to include: duties of lower classified positions.
In order to be qualified for this position you must possess a minimum of a High School Diploma, 3 to 5 years of treatment plant experience, must have a state certified Treatment Plant Operator’s License grade 2T or higher (3T preferred) and must be proficient in operating computers and software, such as: water systems programs, excel, word, windows, etc.
Within six months of appointment, you must obtain a Commercial Drivers License, to include: air brakes, general knowledge, and tanker, endorsements and must possess a confined space safety certificate within six (6) months of appointment. A requirement of this position is being available during emergency situations, such as: snow & ice operations, water/sewer breaks, and other department emergencies.

SERVICE TECHNICIAN

The successful candidate will be responsible for all facets of drinking water compliance, interaction with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and the general public. The selected candidate is required to have Drinking Water Distribution License and /or Treatment Licenses or the ability to obtain these. Essential responsibilities include water system inspection, operation and maintenance, and recommendations for improvements to the systems.
Successful candidate will also conduct sampling/analysis of water systems as required; maintaining compliance with all State and Federal regulatory requirements and guidelines; project management and inspection; O&M manual and emergency response plan development; inventory and tool maintenance. The ability to work independently under the general supervision of the Division Manager is essential.
One year of experience in a similar position is desired. A high school diploma or GED, and/or 1-3 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Computer experience is desired. Wastewater certification and laboratory skills are a plus.

Certified Operator

The Applicant, under direction from an Area Manager, Assistant Plant Manager, Plant Manager, or Chief Operator, performs the daily operations of the assigned facilities, including, with supervision, operations/monitoring/maintenance, and housekeeping of the facilities in accordance with contract requirements.
The Applicant will perform daily operations and maintenance activities at the treatment facilities and pump stations.
Activities include:
- The operation and monitoring of any collection pipelines or distribution network and all associated components.
- Daily inspection of operating sites.
- Maintaining communications with project personnel.
- Preventive maintenance activities and data entry and report generation, including data for preparing the Monthly Operating Report.
- Monitor and control assigned tasks to ensure cost-effective service to meet budget, and will serve as an integral team member with the project staff and management.
- Comply with all company Health and Safety procedures and policies.
- Coordinate with plant personnel, ensuring that other facility employees follow established administrative, safety, operating, and maintenance policies.
Qualifications:
- Applicant will possess proficiency with computers, including an ability to work with: SCADA, Microsoft Word, Excel, Maintenance Management Programs, and other site specific systems.
- High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- Minimum five years of professional experience in the operation and maintenance of a water or wastewater treatment facility is desired.
- Applicant must possess and maintain, as a minimum, a valid Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator’s License(grade 4 or higher), issued by the state(MASS) in which the facility is located.
- Applicant must possess a valid Driver’s License for same state.

Water Operator

Town of Rutland Department of Public Works is accepting
applications for a full-time Water Operator to be
employed within the Department of Public Works Water
Division.
Applicants
must have as a minimum, Massachusetts Grade 2 Water
Treatment License, Massachusetts Grade 2 Distribution
License, and a Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s
License. A Massachusetts Class B CDL with Air Brake
Endorsement, and Massachusetts Hydraulic License is
preferable, or ability to obtain within six months
of employment. Must have a minimum of five (5) years
experience working with a municipal water system.
Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, nights,
holidays, and shift work under varying weather conditions,
as required.
